Sundowner on the Zambezi
A slow boat, a cold glass and hippos for company. Why the river at golden hour deserves a place in every itinerary.

Upstream from the falls the Zambezi is wide, flat and unhurried, nothing like the thundering gorge below. Palm islands sit in the current. Fish eagles call from the trees.
As the light turns amber the river fills with life: hippos surfacing, elephants coming down to drink, birds crossing in long lines toward their roosts.
Book the late departure and bring a layer — it cools quickly once the sun drops.
