February to May is the season of volume. The river is full, the spray is huge and the main falls disappear into cloud. It is spectacular, and often too wet to photograph.

From June to October the water drops, the gorge reveals itself, and white-water rafting reaches its best. Many travellers consider this the sweet spot.

November to January is the hot, dry lead-in to the rains. Fewer crowds, richer light for photographers — and lower prices.
